USA: a stroll along the harbour

Having previously checked on Google Earth that there was a path to the conference centre, I started the 5km walk along the harbour front. Despite visiting San Diego many times in previous years, I was struck by the large number of joggers and bikers, homeless people wearing headphones and top-of-the-range Adidas trainers, pedicabs with sleeping drivers and groups of frumpily-dressed tourists disembarking from cruise ships.

After the conference I wandered the downtown area in search of the some of the items on our list of ‘things we used to get in America’. I walked for hours before staggering back to the hotel like an overloaded pack horse. I deserved a tasty microbrew in the bar.
