Armed with a long shopping list, I spent the day wandering the streets of London, one of my favourite haunts. I overheard a tour guide telling a couple of visitors that a city bus ride was £24 a person. 'Each?' the tourist enquired emphatically as he reached into his wallet to withdraw a handful of notes. Yikes.
Hours later, after mooching in Foyles, I sat people-watching in the Garrick Arms in Trafalgar Square as highlights of the England game from Twickenham played overhead.
I miss London.
