Singapore: We're going to the zoo

After the recent experience at Under-water World, the thought of a trip to Singapore Zoo did not overly excite. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

We started early in the morning at the Jungle Breakfast with the orangutans which, despite the crowds, provided the opportunity to get close to the animals. The similarity between our Flossie’s crop of spiky red hair when she was small and the baby orangutan did not go un-noticed.

We spent the whole day wandering round the grounds where the animals have plenty of space in almost natural surroundings. Mrs M tickled the whiskery snouts of the dugongs as she fed them boiled carrots and potatoes, the chaps enjoyed their elephant ride and we stood in amazement watching the antics of the baboons which played openly with each other’s front and back toilet parts. The white tigers were simply awesome.

A few visitors had rented individual yellow electric mobility carts which after seven hours, were beginning to look quite tempting. We were exhausted. On the journey home, it was clear that this had been a good day out for everyone.

If we have to have zoos, this is really is not a bad example.
