Malaysia: Pulau Rawa

Rawa Safari, Pulau RawaAs daylight increased, so did the sound of jackhammers, heavy machinery, drilling and grinding mixed with the chatter of birds and peacock calls.

The day was whiled away on a white sandy beach under a dark blue cloudless sky. Life in the resort appears to resolve around meals. I’m sure if the management brought the three meals closer together, some people wouldn’t move from their tables.

I have started to read a book. By that I mean a non-technical book without an index, written in English, without pictures, diagrams or illustrations that requires reading from cover to cover in the order in which the pages are numbered. Apart from Ayn Rand’s ‘The Fountainhead’ a couple of years ago (recommended by a waitress in Hooters in San Diego) and a re-read of a few of Kafka’s short stories in the early 2000’s, I would be hard pushed to remember the last book I ever read. This could be the start of something big.

Sorry, a little too subtle for this reader - are you saying there's construction going on at Rawa the live-long day? Seriously considering going in December but not if the so-called matchless tranquility is marred by construction for the next wave of seclusion seekers.

There was construction work at the Rawa Safari resort when we were there five months ago in April.

December might not be the best time to visit the islands as it is in the middle of the monsoon season (November to January). Even if the resort is open, the ferry services can be patchy due to the rough conditions.

If it’s tranquillity you’re looking for, you might prefer Babi Besar.
