The Istana is the official residence of the President of Singapore. As the house and grounds are only open for five days throughout the year, we planned to visit today on the opening which coincides with National Day next week.
Unfortunately, the sky fell down in the morning. In the early afternoon we drove towards the end of Orchard Road to find the majority of the inhabitants of the island in a queue outside the main gate. Bother. The next public opening is at the end of Ramadan when we will arrive at 8.30 am because nobody else will think of arriving early to avoid the queues.
