Oman: Trader Vic's Polynesian delights

As we headed to one of the cheapest restaurants in Muscat, we were diverted to Trader Vic’s on a whim. We had the usual lighting trauma which placed us in the bar area, followed by a double crispy noodle fracas. The bread was over-reheated, the wine had seen better days and Mrs M’s chocolate mousse was not moussey enough (her words). Finally I was served coffee in what looked like a brown milk jug as white coffee cups could not be served in the bar area. Other than that the meal was very good… really.

I should have looked at the website first…..This new brand of American hospitality, steeped in Island style service and atmosphere is like a club without membership-- a worry-free place for customers to escape into a world of the highest culinary quality and consistency, like a faux vacation to the tropics. That explains it.
