USA: never ask hotel staff for advice

With the conference over for 2007, I had the chance to mooch around Horton Plaza for some very last minute shopping. Carrying a shiny new pair of Ascis running shoes in an enormous box, I walked back to the hotel past the USS Midway and the iron-hulled Star of India (built in the Isle of Man and listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest working ship). The area was awash with tourists but I don't think they were from a the local Weightwatchers' Club. I couldn’t stay, my belly was rumbling.

In the hotel, I enquired as to the time to arrive at the airport tomorrow morning (which is located just the other side of the main road)……’it won’t be very busy on Saturday morning, one hour before will do.’
