Oman: Al Areesh desert camp

After collecting a hire car from the airport, we loaded the two vehicles while the cats looked on with suspicion.

Although our Prado knows where it is going by now, the tweets and bleeps of the GPS provided additional comfort during the 190km drive to the Al Areesh desert camp in the Wahiba desert. Despite initial problems climbing into the camp, Dave made a splendid recovery to blast up the dunes and stop in front of the main tent with much coolness, much to the relief of Sophie and Lauren. Barely drawing breath, the team went for a dune ride with the resort guides, to see how throwing someone else's car around the desert without considering the insurance situation should be done.

Afterwards as darkness fell, we sat on a giant barbeque rack between our huts for refreshment and nibbles before dinner. The air was delightfully cool. The evening meal satisfied everyone and we recovered around a gently-flickering fire and the hum of the distant generator.
