Oman: sunset in Azaibah

Azaibah beach was crammed with people enjoying the wonderfully cool evening weather. Boys played football, local families sat on camping chairs (British picnic style), teenagers whizzed past on smoky quad bikes, groups fished from the rocks and small children played in the sea under parental supervision.

A bright white sun fell toward the horizon, making the sea look like crumpled tin foil which had been smoothed out to wrap another packet of sandwiches. We watched shoals of skittish fish making their way along the shore, some jumping out of the water to break the boredom.

The faint call to prayer saw much of the beach empty as we returned to the car and tried to find our way home through all the road blockages from sewer and road improvements.
