Something in the air tonight

The fishy, crabby smell reported recently on Azaibah beach appears to be lingering. There was an overpowering smell of crab meat on Shatti beach this evening. On the bright side, I learned the Arabic for 'disgusting smell'.

A spot of research revealed that the 'red tide' is an annual phenomenon (really?) caused by an abundance of phytoplankton brought to the coast by monsoon winds and currents. Large amounts of seaweed are brought to the surface by cold water from the seabed which causes a lack a of oxygen that kills the fish. Nice.
