Singapore: Sunday tiffin curry

Sunday tiffin curry - Raffles HotelAs a last treat before G and GP’s departure, we took lunch at the Raffles Tiffin Room where Sunday curry was once an important part of colonial life in Singapore.

The hotel has gone to great lengths to recreate those glory days with silver serving dishes and cutlery, reproduction china and suitably starched white table linen. Crisply-dressed waiting staff in smart cream silk waistcoats attended to our needs before, during and after each course providing small chairs for our bags, replacing cutlery, replenishing drinks, re-folding napkins, brushing away crumbs and spillages and re-warming our seat cushions when left exposed for more than a couple of minutes.

Their Indian buffet is one of the finest in Singapore, exemplified by my Afghani murgh tikka tandori, allo sialkoti, karal prawn curry and murgh biyani. The ice cream finale was quite delightful.
