Singapore: Chingay preparation

The Chingay Parade is an annual street parade held as part of the Chinese New Year festivities in various Southeast Asian countries. Singapore’s parade takes place next weekend around the Marina Bay F1 racing circuit. Originally a Chinese festival, it is now a multi-cultural event which draws thousands of spectators and television viewers. Judging by the number of hefty music speakers in the area, the post-carnival party is going to be quite a bash.
Chingay float preparation
As the sun rose on another cool Sunday morning, I walked along the home straight of the circuit towards the first bend near Sheares Bridge where many of the floats are being prepared. As nobody was around I wandered through the temporary workshops where blocks of polystyrene were being transformed into fantastic animals and sculptures. The craftsmanship was extraordinary. I want to make a tyrannosaurus.
